Wrecks are usually caused by two things: bad decisions and dangerous behaviors. In relationships, bad decisions and dangerous behaviors also cause relationships to wreck. And that wreckage is very painful. Wrecked relationships make it hard for us to trust again. The pain from the last wreck still burns and even though we want to move on, it’s incredibly difficult. Relational wreckage is hard to get over especially when it comes to our marriages. So we have to stay away from bad decisions and dangerous behaviors and begin to restore our marriages.
It almost seems normal to take a “test drive” before marriage, but the problem with living together is it teaches us conditional love. God’s design for marriage is a life long commitment of unconditional love toward an imperfect person. This design mirrors God’s unconditional love for us.
When we neglect our vehicles, they usually end up in a mechanic shop needing costly repairs. The same can be said for our lives. We all have issues, which if unaddressed, will lead to a lot of damage. This damage doesn’t just impact us, it impacts those who come after us. What we do in life echoes in eternity. What we do now will affects what we leave behind. We have to learn how to draw a line and with God’s help, face our issues.
